Herb’s & Rye: The Best Bourbon Bar in Las Vegas

Why is Herb’s & Rye the best bourbon bar in Las Vegas? It is an off-the-strip bar with a speakeasy vibe, where the locals gather to enjoy an old-fashioned and a steak to die for.
I walk through the door and can’t see anything. The interior is so dark after coming in from the blinding sunlight of the Las Vegas desert. I stop and let my eyes adjust. Then I see it—the bar just beyond the entry, with a fantastic stock of spirits and bartenders in vests and ties, a nod to the speakeasies of yesteryear. And possibly the best bourbon bar in Las Vegas.
I’m meeting some colleagues here—locals who know what’s good. We gather at our table and order drinks. Of course, some Old Fashioneds were in order with the vibe of this place. And then the steak—OMG, it was good!
Herbs & Rye is the first restaurant opened by Nectaly Mendoza. His vision was to create a throwback to the speakeasies of another time, with a focus on cocktails and good meals. It has become a popular spot for locals to hang out at the bar or enjoy a late dinner. He also owns Cleaver, Middle Child and Morning News.
We hung out, had cocktails and delicious food, caught up, and had a great time together. It had been over a year since we last saw each other. The place was just perfect. We ended up staying for more than two hours. Just a heads up, they might have time limits on their tables. We exceeded our limit slightly, and they politely reminded us instead of kicking us out. It was getting late anyway, so we eventually moved on.
If you’re in Las Vegas, this is a must-visit. Step away from the strip and discover a local favorite.
