Hotel Deco, The Art Deco Hotel in Omaha, Nebraska
A hotel stay is more than just a place to sleep; it’s an experience. It’s about how the hotel makes me feel and how it enhances my stay. I must say that the unique design of this Art Deco hotel in Omaha sets it apart from the rest. I haven’t stayed in a hotel with such rich Art Deco-inspired design before. It feels opulent and sophisticated.
The Hotel
I have stayed at this hotel before. I can’t resist good Art Deco architecture, and this hotel in Omaha is a beauty. Often visiting Omaha for clients in the Council Bluffs, Iowa, I have been trying out the various hotels there. It had been a while since I stayed here, so I decided to stay here again.
The Hotel Deco, originally constructed in 1930 as an office building. It was later converted into a full-service hotel in 1989. In 2010, it was purchased by the current owners after which it underwent an extensive renovation. The hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a member of Historic Hotels of America.
I arrived in a storm. Interestingly, the last time I stayed here years ago, I also arrived in a storm. However, this time, the valet did not come. I unloaded and went inside the lobby, where I discovered that the desk attendant was also the valet. It was just momentarily inconvenient, but the desk attendant helped me get everything sorted out nicely. It seems that the storm has had everyone in town a bit frazzled (many tornadoes struck just a few weeks before, so I understand!). Upon checking in, I took a moment to admire the gorgeous design of the lobby. The Monarch Restaurant and Bar are located off the lobby. The velvet couches were lovely. Unfortunately, they closed early also because of the storm. So…I wasn’t able to grab a nightcap before heading up to my room.
The room
The room was a King Parlor Suite, a two-room suite located on the corner of the building with fantastic views of the city. As I entered the room, I was greeted by the closet door, with a wonderful chevron design. I then moved into the sitting area with the custom wallcovering, geometric lines on the floor, on the walls, and in the furniture. It is also furnished with a coveted work desk, a couch, a TV, and a bar area complete with a sink and a coffee maker.
As I moved around the corner to the next room, I entered the bedroom with a continuation of those simple geometric lines so standard in Art Deco design. The bed was super comfortable, and there was a bathroom off the side of the bedroom with a fabulous shower. However, be sure to look for the instructions on how to operate it, or you may spend a minute trying to figure it out. Once I got it, I almost couldn’t drag myself out.
My Favorite Part of this Art Deco Hotel In Omaha
It is the design that stands out. The use of chevrons, geometric shapes, lines, brass and silver, black and white, wall murals, velvet couches, modern and clean rooms, sleek and sophisticated, it is truly stunning.
Location
This Art Deco hotel in Omaha is situated downtown, within walking distance of the Old Market and numerous restaurants. It is also just a short drive to the Henry Doorly Zoo, Eppley Airfield, and the casinos in Iowa across the river.
Bottom Line
I would stay here again. It is technically a full-service hotel with valet, a restaurant, a bar, and room service. Although that was interupated on my stay because of the storm that rolled through town. They did have breakfast but I opted to try a recommendation about ten minutes away, a local hangout. The hotel is a gem, and one that Omaha is lucky to have..
